About The Role
For over 29 years Art Buddies has brought joyful and free one-to-one creative mentorship to thousands of children at Twin Cities’ highest need schools and communities.
Art Buddies is Creative Mentors Helping Kids Build Dreams!
We are in need of mentors with all kinds of backgrounds to work one-on-one with students from the highest need communities around the twin cities. Schools include Hall, Lucy Laney, Bancroft, Whittier and Ella Baker.
Time commitment is once a week during the school term for 8-10 weeks. (see exact times below).
Character Creation Program – Fall 2023
Our mentors and students work together to create a one-of-a-kind character and costume based on the child’s imagination and values — along the way, we spark imagination and build confidence. With the help and guidance from their creative mentors, kids are able to build a foundation of confidence in creativity.

In-person program
Work with students age 8-11
Connect with your buddy every week for a period of 8 – 10 weeks
Create a character and costume using our huge collection of art supplies
Celebrate your creation & participate in a costume parade, presentation, and professional photoshoot
BE A SUPER BUDDY!
Super Buddies come to as many days of individual programming as they can, at any school they can. Super Buddies are paired with a student whose weekly buddy is missing. The Program Director will reach out to you to create your schedule.
Penpal Program – Coming Spring 2024
Join us as an Art Buddy Penpal! Connect with our distance learning scholars via snail mail. You and your little buddy will receive a special Art Buddies Penpal Activity Book complete with activities like coloring pages, story writing, comic strips, and creating a Super Buddy character! Mentors will send weekly letters and crafts encouraging and assisting their buddy through the Penpal Activity Book. All materials are provided by Art Buddies for you to personalize!
At home program
Work with students age 8-11
Suggested donation of $20 to help us cover the cost of postage
Send your buddy one letter every week for a period of 6-8 weeks
Receive postcards from your buddy in the mail
Attend a final “Party” to meet your buddy and decorate an “All Are Welcome Here” sign together
Community Outreach
Join Art Buddies at events in the community!! You’ll meet cool people, have a great time, and make a difference! Be an Art Buddies Ambassador!!
Art Buddies believes in being integral members of the schools and communities in which we serve. We join our communities by participating in cultural and art events, creative industry events, farmers markets, and programming with the Midtown Global Market.
