Internship Summary
The Food Safety Quality Assurance internship at Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc.
(AWG) will provide students with a career interest in the food industry and a scientific related academic background, the opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to a food business and food distribution environment. Through assigned projects, interns will have the opportunity to positively impact a number of food safety, quality, and efficiency initiatives. Interns will experience a broad cross-section of food distribution, co manufacturing and quality assurance.
As an intern you’ll gain direct experience with all aspects of Food Safety and Quality Assurance in the corporate and distribution center setting, while developing key skills in team interactions, problem-solving, and communications.
The Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) department oversees and manages the food safety policies, programs, procedures for the company and works with the business to develop strategic corporate food safety goals. In addition, this area provides support and direction for all sites for compliance to interface with regulatory agencies (FDA, USDA and State/Local regulators) to mediate compliance.
The FSQA department is responsible for the quality assurance functions for four company owned brands. FSQA closely monitors all private label suppliers for food safety measures and regularly tests the Always Save®, Best Choice®, Clearly by Best Choice™, and Best Choice® Superior Selections® products to make sure they maintain consistent quality.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
Bachelor of Science with Food Science preferred.
Junior or senior level students preferred. Recent graduates are acceptable.
Solid communication skills
Strong organization skills
Attention to detail, willingness to ask questions, ability to follow up.
Initiative, enthusiasm to learn and ability to follow direction
PC skills with Word and Excel. Ability to create pivot tables, charts and graphs are a plus.
