As the Marketing Specialist, you’ll have the unique opportunity to join our growing Wind Energy team as part of a high-performance team chartered with driving the business forward. The is a critical position that partners with Wind Energy Group leadership and Business Development to advance the business strategy through clear and compelling marketing and communication.

You will be a key contributor to our overall marketing strategy development and execution, and play a key role in differentiating our company, building brand awareness, and reaching our customers through a variety of channels and activation. Your primary focus will be leading the development and creation of messaging and content that attracts and retains customers and team members and brings our strategy to life through mediums like project proposals, digital marketing, events and tradeshows, graphic design and content creation, PR and communications, and much more.

The right candidate is a strategic, critical thinker who’s passionate about storytelling, learning about our business and our customer journeys, and connecting with those customers through strategic marketing and communications. You are an ambitious and creative thinker/doer, passionate about both developing and executing marketing and communication strategies.

You are expected to deeply understand our work, our differentiators, and the needs of our customers and translate that knowledge into smart, customer-focused content. Good interpersonal skills, detail orientation, adaptability, time management and a high degree of collaboration across the company will be necessary to deliver efficiently and effectively and redefine what’s possible for our company.


Insights + Strategy Support

Contribute to the development and implementation of the Wind Groups Marketing & Communications strategy
Partner with Leadership team to create the annual Business Plan by interviewing stakeholders, synthesizing main messages, and translating that into a visually compelling and coherent presentation for Executive and Board leadership
Invest in learning various aspects of our customer’s business to develop an intimate knowledge of our target audiences; ensure all work product reflects the customer’s language and resonates with the target audience
Develop insight-led messaging to differentiate Mortenson particularly in proposals and presentations, partnering with our Business Development and Preconstruction leaders to convey what matters most to our customers
Develop and implement events and tradeshow strategies and activation to promote and differentiate the Mortenson brand, meaningful engage with customers, and enable sales

Collaborate with team members to produce content that draws the audience in and encourages engagement
Provide flawless delivery of written content with a strong emphasis on solving the customer’s problems, meeting and managing deadlines, and various stakeholders/subject matter experts
Write, design, and assemble marketing and sales materials like proposals, leave-behinds, customer emails, PPT presentations, articles, social media content, exhibition materials, etc.
Coordinate and develop project proposals in response to RFP’s working independently and with multiple stakeholders in a deadline driven environment.
Draft written and visual stories that engage the customer and achieve a specific business goal
Collaborate with team members to secure compelling visuals that supplement your messaging
Partner with Digital Team (webpage and social media) to plan and develop content that promotes Mortenson Wind
Write, design, and assemble internal communications such as templates, PPT’s, and infographics that illustrate news, updates, and other important concepts to employees

Event Management

Collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and execute employee and customer facing events that support business objectives
Develop conference and tradeshow strategies and activations that differentiate and position Mortenson in the Energy industry

Proactively organize projects and incoming requests to ensure deadlines are met; communicate with manager and team to balance workloads
Identify any issues affecting the completion of assigned tasks and proactively problem-solve to remediate the issues
Seek and utilize coaching and feedback for continuous improvement
Learn and follow marketing best practices and measurement opportunities to track all content; identify, measure, and report metrics and efficacy
Navigate and support multiple stakeholder priorities and perspectives



Demonstrated experience developing and implementing creative and engaging event strategies and activations for tradeshows and conferences, employee engagement, and customer hospitality events
Communication + Writing

Strong business writing, presentation, and messaging proficiency
Competency in interviewing subject matter experts to develop key messages and quantify value to our customers both visually and in storytelling (value beyond features and benefits)
Enjoy researching and learning new industries and service offerings, with the ability to identify key drivers and pain points shaping the customer’s mindset to develop accurate and cohesive narratives
Flexible, effective communication and interpersonal skills with those of diverse organizational levels and backgrounds
Adaptable mindset to changing expectations, projects, and milestones based on business needs, comfortable with navigating ambiguity
Demonstrated proficiency in writing long- and short-form content for business-to-business (B2B) audiences

Ability to work both independently and as part of a fast-paced team to manage projects and deliverables
Adept at organizing, prioritizing, and delivering multiple assignments at once
Strong critical thinker, with the ability to architect solutions and clearly communicate strategic ideas in a clear, simple, and succinct manner
Demonstrated passion for learning with a growth mindset
Expert level in MS Word and PowerPoint for messages and visuals; sharp visual organization of information to quickly convey the core message
Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) with a good understanding of graphic layout and visual hierarchy
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

Experience and Education:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Business, Journalism, or similar field
Minimum of five to seven years of experience in B2B writing, content marketing/graphic design, communications, events management, or sales enablement
