Vice President, Regional Marketing and Communications

GREATER MSP is a cross-sector partnership of over 200 of the region’s leading businesses, cities, universities, counties, foundations and community organizations, which is supported by a 501c3 nonprofit organization.  The GREATER MSP Partnership provides leadership to grow the economy of the 15-county Minneapolis-Saint Paul region and create inclusive economic opportunity for all residents of the region.  Together, we shape and execute a regional economic development strategy focused in areas such as job growth, racial inclusion, and talent.  To do this work GREATER MSP builds teams of partners and manages a portfolio of ambitious, regional-scale efforts such as Make It. MSP., Forge North, and the Regional Air Services Partnership.
The Vice President of Marketing and Communications is a leadership role reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and participates in overall organizational leadership as a key member of the Executive Team. This position serves as ‘chief executive storyteller’ and global brand strategist for the region. Responsible for managing and leading all aspects of the GREATER MSP Partnership’s marketing and communication strategy, campaigns, media and public relations, issues management and program initiatives. This leader will create and execute an innovative strategic marketing and communication plan in collaboration with a hardworking, professional team and set of marketing and communications leaders from across the region.  A key aspect of the role is working with the CEO and VP of Operations on revenue strategy and investor engagement.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and lead regional and global brand strategy for the Greater Minneapolis Saint Paul Region
  • Creates National and Global marketing strategies for the Greater MSP region and leads execution of this comprehensive strategy with a partnership approach to meet key objectives and achieve the 2030 ambition on regional brand and image.
  • Negotiates, develops, and administers contracts and agreements with third party resources for products and services in support of objectives
  • Prepares and disseminates marketing and communications content for all channels (print, broadcast, digital, face-to-face)
  • Identifies and collaborates with partner organizations in the region on marketing/communications campaigns
  • Create and sustain awareness and positive perception of the work of the GREATER MSP Partnership among media and other key influencers throughout the region and state
  • Leads media relations efforts designed to drive awareness and visibility of GREATER MSP Partnership successes, sustaining strong media relationships and actively identifying and training spokespeople to represent the region in selected regional, national and international opportunities
  • This role supports building an inclusive culture where marketing, communications and development drive decisions through market-tested data to enhance the organization’s brand reputation and community involvement.
  • Develop and sustain an effective, dynamic approach to communicating across the hundreds of active partner organizations who do the work of the GREATER MSP Partnership
  • Maintains strong relationships and serves as a visible ambassador, connector and relationship-builder with diverse stakeholders across the region
  • Oversees the development and implementation of specific communications deliverables to include the annual report and investor directory
  • Work with the VP of Strategic Initiatives and VP of Business Investment to create Marketing and Communications strategies related to respective brands, voices and goals. Partner together to address challenges and engage with opportunities that connect to overall ambitions
  • Develop and sustain an effective communications system within the GREATER MSP professional staff to ensure there is awareness of the work underway, visibility to opportunities to enhance collaboration and a set of shared, accurate message about the work of GREATER MSP
  • Collaborates with CEO, VP of Operations and other GREATER MSP executives to create an inclusive and transparent culture, with core values that align and guide decision-making at every level
  • Oversees management, planning, preparation, and staffing of various organizational and partnership events
  • Promotes the organizational and partnership values and objectives in overall work plans and executive
  • Understands and reinforces the importance of clear and consistent brand standards across all organizational communications and channels
  • Participate actively in the Executive Team of the GREATER MSP organization, providing leadership and problem solving to the organization
  • Develops and actively manages GREATER MSP’s marketing and communications budget; prioritizes and allocates available program resources; prepares and justifies requests for additional resources
  • Recruits and develops a cohesive, effective team: clearly defines responsibilities and establishes clear expectations for individual and team performance; guides day-to-day operations
In conjunction with CEO and VP of Operations: 
  • Builds and implements a proactive stakeholder engagement strategy and plan to strengthen relationships and retain investment
  • Leads, guides and directs investor relations efforts and strategies designed to expand investment levels and base
  • Oversees strategy for attracting and acquiring new investors, including active solicitation of potential members and engaging investors in appropriate projects and activities of the organization and affiliates
  • Oversees foundation relations and affiliates including approving grant research.  Preparation, and reporting, and active solicitation of foundations
  • Creates stakeholder tool-kit materials in order to grow visibility and awareness of the region on a global platform focused on working together in partnership.
Experience:  10-15+ years of success in marketing, communications, public relations, brand management, and/or stakeholder engagement (specifically 5-10+ years’ experience in a Director/Senior Director level position).  Experience with public policy and/or economic development initiatives a plus. Demonstrated ability to build great brands and work with diverse stakeholders to create strong, effective working relationships.

Education: Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience required. Industry certifications from established marketing and communications associations such as American Marketing Association a plus.
